1 Cor 14:28 reads " But if no one is present who can interpret, they must be silent in your church meeting and speak in tongues to God privately." It's very clear that even if someone is speaking in a language no one else understands that they are speaking to God privately. The scripture doesn't say that if no one interprets that it's false or fake. I don't think it's something we can do at will rather it's a gift given to some, something that should be done privately and not for public display.

Is speaking in tongues for Christians today, and what is it?
by jwfacts inthe watchtower claims speaking in tongues was restricted to the first century, though it seems quite clear that this was something to be practiced in the last days.
should christians today speak in tongues and what exactly is it?
i am wondering about the reasoning as some christian religions practice it and others don't.

But Frannie, the assertion is that one can read a word simply by using the first and last letters. It doesn't say anything about context. In fact the assertion itself misses the point that context is everything in reading that sentence.
under_believer, relax and just enjoy the post. It's under the jokes section, not under the lets analize this to death section. Take a deep breath and relax.

Ban on Jeans , T-Shirts & Shorts after the Convention
by dozy inapr km insert.
"even during leisure time , such as when going out to eat after the programme , we should dress as befits ministers... and should not wear such clothing as jeans , shorts or t-shirts.
what a witness this will give to the community.".

I feel sorry the the teenagers and young adults. It's bad enough having to sit through a convention, but not been able to go home and change into more comfy clothes before going out it's just crazy. What next?

Hebrews1:4 Jesus is greater than the angels and therefore could not be Michael
Hebrews1:8 God says to Jesus "Your throne, O God, endures forever and ever."
Those two scriptures were life changing.

The psychology of internet posting
by onacruse inkate and i were having a discussion (with some differences of opinion .
what if there were no "total posts" listed under your screen name?
what if there were no such tags as "newbie, junior, senior, etc., etc., etc.," or "forum assistant, administrator.".

I do feel a bit intimidated when I reply to a poster that has 10 000 posts and I have ...... I'm not sure how many I have but I know it's much much less. I try and read all the new post but don't always feel the need to answer or comment.

Defending WT changing Doctrines
by stillajwexelder inok - dont shout at me -but i know that archaeologists will change a theory based on a new find.
so will historains.
so will scientists.

Scientists would welcome a well researched article contradicting an earlier belief. No matter how much research you do to prove that the JW's have made mistakes they will not listen. Instead they will tell you that you are weak and need help. That you must not run ahead of the FDS. Can you imagine if doctors and scientist did the same, we would still be getting "bled" to cleanse the blood of many illnesses.
If the FDS had to listen to other point of views and adjust when they saw that they were wrong, the JW's would not be a cult and they would not believe in half the rubbish that still gets taught today.

My life after Bethel
by new boy inthank you for this place in cyber space, this is therapy for me.
there is something about writing things down, that helps put things in perspective........ the day i left it was pouring rain........i really screwed up, i found out the night before, as i was packing things up, that i had way under estimated how much stuff i had.
i had two large suit cases (that i could barely shut the lids on) and a large army duffel bag.

Has the number of 144,000 changed?
by TooBad TooSad inthrough out my witness life i have always believed that when the partakers at memorial went up that means.
that some of the anoited were unfaithful and had to be replaced.

Makes sense to me. The active JW don't always notice these things. The elders may say that some of the annointed have not admitted to losing God's favour. You know there is always an explenation from the GB. One day the light bulb will go out and the light will no longer get any brighter. Hopefully it will be in my lifetime.
